Elections – Victoria Saints Bowls Club

Election of Officers

As per our clubs constitution, all elected officials will serve for 1 year and should seek re-election at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The next AGM is planned to take place on Saturday 3rd October 2026.

Criteria

You must be a fully paid up member of VSBC.
You must have 2 nominations from other members (self nominations are not allowed).
You must be aged 18 years or older by the date of the election.
You must not be under-going or received any club disciplinary within the last 6 months.
You must be willing to under-go a DBS check at the request of the committee.
You must have prior knowledge in the role or similar in which you are seeking nomination for.

All nominations MUST be received in writing to the club secretary or using the form on this page no later than mid-day on the 3rd September 2026. Any nominations after this time will be considered null and void.

Election Process

If the incumbent official is nominated unchallenged they may accept the role unchallenged.
If a new nomination is received and they are nominated unchallenged, the membership must vote by majority in favour to accept.
If a role is not filled, the membership must ask the incumbent to remain in role for another year. If this is refused, on the floor nominations may take place and voting by majority will take place.
All votes will be digital and anonymous.
All membership type is entitled to 1 vote per electable role and have the right to abstain.

The following positions will be elected at the AGM each year.

Secretary
Assistant Secretary
Treasurer
Safeguarding & Wellbeing Officer (Non-exec)
Vice-Captain (Non-exec)

The following positions will be elected by the newly elected committee at the AGM each year.

President (non-exec)
Chairman

For an AGM to meet quorum there must be a minimum of 15 club members present at the AGM.

What are the roles?

An explanation to the roles is provided below, non-executive members hold no voting rights but hold entitlement to attend meetings and to be involved in decision making. Captain, Vice-Captain and Selectors form a part of the Team Management and may be invited to Executive Meetings to discuss and advise on club matters.

The President and Chairman roles are to be selected immediately by discussion of the newly elected Executive Committee at each AGM. For further information, please refer to the Club Constitution.

President

The President is a honourary non-executive role held by distinguished members of the club and may represent the club at official ceremonies and responsible for the issuing of awards. The President has the right to sit in on Executive Meetings and be a part of the discussion but has no vote.

Incumbent: Ken Gabriel

Chairman

The Chairman is a honourary executive role held by experienced members of the club and are involved in day to day club matters. The Chairman is responsible for chairing meetings and advising the executive committee. The Chairman may conduct club business on behalf of the committee and holds the casting vote in the event of a tied vote and may not vote otherwise.

Secretary

The Secretary is the main executive role which is responsible for the overall running of the club and the executive committee. The Secretary holds responsibility for the Governance, funding, competitions, fixtures, meetings and membership of the club and is the main point of contact for all members and external organisations. The Secretary is entitled to full voting rights.

Incumbent: Nicky Thomas

Assistant Secretary

The Assistant Secretary is a vital supporting executive role which works closely with the Secretary to assist with the running of the club and managing fixtures and competitions. The Assistant Secretary is entitled to full voting rights.

Incumbent: Sheree Thomas (Interim Exec Appt)

Treasurer

The Treasurer is a main executive role who is responsible for managing the bank account and finances of the club. The Treasurer will be responsible for receiving club funds, banking cash, cheques, payments and providing a annual treasurers report and statements to the committee or members when requested. The Treasurer is entitled to full voting rights.

Safeguarding Officer

The Safeguarding Officer is a vital supporting role responsible for the welfare of its members. This is a mandatory role which all clubs in Wales must fulfill, safeguarding concerns and issues should be reported to the safeguarding officer who will help deal with any issues in confidence and where appropriate, signpost to external support or the police. The Safeguarding officer is not entitled to vote.
